Information and Passenger Guide for New Delhi Airport Terminal 3
In early November 2010, some of the domestic flight operations for New Delhi were shifted to Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport. All international flights have been using Terminal 3 for all operations - arrivals and departures - since July 2010.
We would like to assure you that the change of terminal has not impacted the service or processes that the airlines follow. However, since Terminal 3 is much bigger and offers greater facilities, there have been frequent queries about the services and processes there.
Here are a few simple answers to the most frequently asked Terminal 3 questions:
Q. What is Terminal 3?
Operational since July 2010, Terminal 3 the expanded passengers’ terminal of New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Considered one of the largest airport terminals in the world, Terminal 3 has more space and state-of-the-art facilities.
Q. Where is it located and how accessible is it?
Terminal 3 is located just 9 kilometers from the older Terminal 1. Complimentary shuttle services are available between these terminals, operating at a frequency of 20 minutes. Pre-paid taxis, radio cabs, TSRs and major car rental companies have counters at the terminal. Metro connectivity is also expected to start soon.
The only change is that you now have to keep more time for the commute, as the airport is a little further away from the city center, and traffic can be heavy on the route.
Q. Which flights operate from Terminal 3?
All international flights - arrivals and departures - operate from Terminal 3. However, only the full-service domestic airlines operate from T3.

Q. What else should I keep in mind while travelling through Terminal 3?
It is important to remember that Terminal 3 is one of the largest airports, so while the services and facilities are excellent, such as 168 check-in counters, passengers are also required to walk more to access these facilities. Following these simple steps can make your travel from T3 easier:
- All airlines operating from T3 advise that passengers reach the airport at least 2 hours before the flight’s scheduled departure.
- Remember, as per the new rules, check-in counter will close 40 minutes before the flight’s scheduled departure.
- For any flight, always check the updated schedule before heading out for the airport.
- The access roads to T3 via Mahipalpur and NH8 witnesses heavy rush hour traffic. While the daily traffic adjusts and suitable diversions are made, it is advisable to keep time in hand while going to the airport.
- Expect to walk more. Make sure you keep enough time for check-in and security, as the terminal is much larger and the distances to cover will require more time.
Q. What are some of the other facilities at Terminal 3?
The state-of-the-art terminal features a large sections for shopping and dining, separate area for children, prayer room, and even a smokers’ lounge. The terminal is Wi-Fi enabled. Medical assistance is available at departure and arrival, as well as a pharmacy. Shuttle services are available to terminals 1C and D.
